On March 2, 2023, around 2 a.m., Edson RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) observed a car travelling the wrong direction on a one-way road through town. After conducting a traffic stop with the vehicle, the RCMP CRU officer felt something was suspicious and conducted surveillance on the vehicle. The vehicle was observed picking someone up at a local hotel who was wanted on multiple warrants from four separate jurisdictions. The RCMP CRU officer was able to arrest the wanted male.
A 38-year-old individual, a resident of Calgary, was arrested on 36 outstanding warrants, including:
- Arson
- Theft (x11)
- Driving uninsured motor vehicle
- Fail to attend court (x6)
- Break and Enter
- Fraud (x2)
- Make or possess a seal
- Possession of a forged document (x2)
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Identity theft (x4)
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon
- Identity Fraud (x2)
- Resisting a Peace Officer
- Mischief (x2)
The individual was brought before a justice of the peace for a judicial interim release hearing and was remanded into custody. He will be appearing in Canmore Provincial Court on March 15, Strathmore Provincial Court on March 21 and Calgary Provincial Court on March 22, 2023.
