Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit execute search warrant

On June 15, 2023, Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EAD RCRU) executed a search warrant on a residence on the Saddle Lake First Nation. With the assistance of St. Paul RCMP and acting on information from the public, the warrant execution resulted in the arrest of a male.

As a result of the search warrant, the following were seized:

  • A 2009 Dodge truck
  • Construction equipment
  • A Honda generator
  • A restricted firearm
  • A non-restricted firearm
  • A quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine
  • Canadian currency

A 50-year-old individual, a resident of Saddle Lake First Nation, has been charged with 18 offences including:

  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5000
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5000 (x3)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x3)
  • Unsafe Storage of Firearm (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm/Ammunition while prohibited (x6)

At the time of the arrest, the individual was bound by two lifetime Firearms Prohibition Orders. After a judicial interim release hearing, the individual was released for Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on June 29, 2023.

"Reducing the harm brought to communities is one of the goals of the Crime Reduction Unit. Investigations like this take steps towards helping to reduce this harm," says Sgt Mike Dunsmore EAD CRU Unit Commander.
