Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP investigates single-vehicle crash; driver arrested for impaired driving

A 20-year-old man was arrested by Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP following a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on January 15, 2023, police received a report of the crash, which occurred on Read Street in Port aux Basques, and attended the scene. The driver, who had run from the vehicle on foot prior to police arrival, was located a short distance away. He was injured, showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving.

The man was transported to the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre in Port Aux Basques where he was treated for his injuries. He was provided a blood demand and samples were collected for analysis. Officers await the results of the blood samples to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.

The investigation is continuing.
