On Aug. 24, 2023, at 1:09 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a disturbance at a local business. The investigation revealed that during the disturbance, an accidental discharge of a firearm occurred where one male was hospitalized with serious injuries after shooting himself with the firearm.
On Nov 3, 2023, a 45-year-old individual, a resident of Brooks, was charged with the following:
- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization
- Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized
- Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration
- Pointing a firearm
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Schedule I: Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Schedule I: Cocaine
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle
The individual will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Brooks on Nov. 22, 2023

Brook RCMP investigate shooting at local bar
On Aug. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at a local night club. RCMP attended and were told that a 45-year-old male, a Brooks resident, had been taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound. The male suffered significant injury and was flown to a Calgary hospital.
The investigation is in its early stages, but information suggests this is an isolated incident, and there is no risk to the public.
