On May 8, 2023, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the O'Chiese First Nation. Upon arrival, 31-year-old Brett Roan was found deceased. His manner of death was deemed to be a homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were called in to investigate, and an arrest warrant was obtained for a 25-year-old individual, a resident of the O'Chiese First Nation.

On May 29, 2023, the 25-year-old individual was arrested on O'Chiese First Nation.

The 25-year-old individual has been charged with second-degree murder. After a judicial interim release hearing, the individual was remanded into custody with another court date on June 7, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit is seeking the public's assistance to locate an individual charged with second-degree murder.

On May 8, 2023, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the O'Chiese First Nation. upon arrival, 31-year-old Brett Roan was found deceased. An autopsy was conducted on May 9, 2023 at the Calgary Medical Examiners officer, and the death was deemed a homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has obtained an arrest warrant for a 25-year-old individual, a resident of the O'Chiese First Nation, for one count of second-degree murder. The individual remains at large, and investigators are asking for the public's assistance to locate them.

The 25-year-old individual is described as:

  • 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • 155 pounds
  • Black hair
  • Brown Eyes
  • Medium Complexion
  • Has a prosthetic left leg

The 25-year-old individual may be in the Sunchild/O'Chiese, Rocky Mountain House or Red Deer areas. He may be armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the 25-year-old individual is asked to call the Rocky Mountain House RCMP at 403-845-2881. Rocky Mountain House RCMP investigate firearms complaints advise residents to shelter in place

Rocky Mountain House RCMP are currently investigating multiple firearms complaints in the Sunchild and O'Chiese First Nations. RCMP have sent a Police Initiated Public Alert advising residents in those communities to shelter in place.

RCMP are actively looking for four suspects, two of which are identified as a 28-year-old and a 25-year-old individual.

These suspects are considered armed and dangerous. If seen do not approach. Please call 911 immediately.
