A 31-year-old man from Perth-Andover, N.B., has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison following two drug trafficking investigations in the community.
On January 27, 2022, police executed search warrants at two different locations as part of an investigation into drug trafficking: at a residence on West Riverside Drive in Perth-Andover, and at a residence on McCluskey Road in Grand Falls. During the searches, police seized large quantities of methamphetamine pills, crystal methamphetamine, and hydromorphone pills. Police also seized eight firearms, several of which were unsecured, and cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, ammunition, money, a replica pellet handgun, a replica airsoft rifle, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Two people were arrested at the scene without incident. A 30-year-old man from Perth-Andover was later released on conditions.
On April 29, 2022, at approximately 8:50 a.m., members of the Provincial Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on West Riverside Drive as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. During the search, police seized quantities of crack cocaine, fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and oxycodone pills. Police also seized a prohibited firearm, a loaded handgun magazine, bear spray, a baseball bat, and money. Peace officers with the Department of Justice and Public Safety assisted with the search.
A 31-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, both from Perth-Andover were arrested at the scene without incident.
On April 29, Justin Curran appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court by way of tele-remand. He returned to court on May 3. As a result of both appearances, he was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Failure to comply with the conditions of an undertaking
On July 20, 2023, Justin Curran plead guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, and protonitazene. He was subsequently sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison.
These investigations were conducted by the Provincial Crime Reduction Unit, which includes police officers from the New Brunswick RCMP. Members of the New Brunswick Criminal Intelligence Services assisted. These efforts focus on disrupting and dismantling the trafficking of illegal drugs in our province, targeting those causing the most harm in our communities.
