29-year-old man charged with first degree murder in connection with homicide

A 29-year-old man from Saint John, N.B., has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the homicide of a 26-year-old man, from Dieppe, N.B.

On June 25, 2023, at approximately 10 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report that a man had been shot at a residence on Louis Street, in Dieppe. When police arrived at the scene, they located a 26-year-old man inside of the residence who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital with what were believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries and died in hospital. The victim was later identified as Jacob Wright.

On June 26, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., as part of the ongoing investigation, members of the New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit, Saint John Police Force Street Crime Integrated Enforcement Unit (IEU) and Emergency Tactical Services arrested a 29-year-old man in Saint John, who was also wanted for being unlawfully at large.

On June 27, Brandon Patrick LeBlanc appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with first degree murder. He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on July 11.

The New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Units are made up of members from the New Brunswick RCMP, as well as municipal police and Justice and Public Safety officers in the province. These efforts aim to improve the coordinated response to the growing concerns of drugs, firearms, and organized crime within New Brunswick.
