Update, September 15, 2023: On September 12, 2023, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death was laid against a 17-year-old youth in Saint John Provincial Court. The youth is scheduled to appear in court on September 20.

A 16-year-old girl from Upper Letang, N.B., has died following a single-vehicle crash in Pennfield, N.B.
On April 19, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the St. George RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 778 in Pennfield. The driver, a 17-year-old girl from St. George, was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old girl, and only other passenger of the vehicle, died at the scene as a result of her injuries.
The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle, travelling south, left the roadway, entered the ditch and collided with a utility pole.
Members of the Municipality of Eastern Charlotte Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist also attended the scene. A Member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office also attended the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the girl's exact cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
