Woman charged with second degree murder following homicide investigation

A 30-year-old woman from the Minto area has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the homicide of a 52-year-old man in Maugerville, N.B.

On October 9, 2022, at approximately 7 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP detachment and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report that a man was believed to have been assaulted at a home on Highway 105, in Maugerville. When police arrived on scene, they found a 52-year-old man from the community who was unconscious and gravely injured. The man was transported to hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The man, who was identified as Alexander "Andy" Ladds, died in hospital as a result of his injuries on October 10. Through the investigation, the New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit determined his death to be the result of a homicide.

Less than 24 hours after responding to the initial report, police identified a person of interest in connection with the investigation. On October 10, at approximately 7 p.m., a 30-year-old woman was arrested at a residence in Newcastle Creek without incident.

On October 11, Jodie Carrie Clark, appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with second degree murder. She was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on November 1 at 9:30 a.m.
