On September 27 2022, at 07:10 am, Resolute Bay RCMP responded to a structure fire at the Resolute Bay Observatory, a research station located approximately 6.5 kms northeast of the community.
The building was not occupied at the time and there were no reported injuries. The buildings that were affected are the living quarters (total loss) on site and the building that houses the generator, which had smoke and water damage. The loss value is still to be determined but is considerable. A Fire Investigator from the Government of Nunavut is enroute to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
Resolute Bay RCMP have identified two suspects at this time and the investigation is on-going.
