Slave Lake RCMP arrest male for pointing a firearm

On Oct. 29, 2022, at 10:04 a.m., Slave Lake RCMP responded to a report of a firearm being discharged at a person on a rural highway in the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River (MD124).

Slave Lake RCMP met with the victim who advised the incident occurred the day before at approximately 4 p.m. The victim was in the area looking at something for sale. The male suspect approached and began yelling at him before discharging a firearm into the ground and then pointing the firearm near the victim's face. The suspect told the victim if he returned, he would be shot in the face. The victim was eventually allowed to leave unharmed.

Slave Lake RCMP attended the suspect's residence and located what appeared to be a prohibited firearm in plain view inside a residence. The area was secured and the General Investigation Section of the Slave Lake RCMP obtained a judicial authorization to search the residence. The firearm and other items were seized and as a result of the search.

A 68-year-old individual, a resident of MD124, was charged with the following:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Uttering threats against a person
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Discharge a firearm while being reckless
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Slave Lake provincial court on Jan. 11, 2023.

"Slave Lake RCMP want to remind residents of Slave Lake and MD124 that reports play an important role in our investigations. They tell us where to look, who to look for and where to patrol in the future so to report any suspicious activity so it can be investigated by detachment members."
