Charges laid in Bell's Point suspicious death investigation

2022-07-28

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has charged multiple people in relation to the death of 24-year-old Edgar Ratt of Bell's Point on July 21, 2022.

23-year-old Cameron Ross, 21-year-old Charmaine Charles, 20-year-old Gracie Isbister, 21-year-old Katelyn Halkett, a 17-year-old female youth and a 17-year-old male youth, all of the La Ronge District, are charged with:

  • one count, first degree murder, section 235(1) of the Criminal Code
  • one count, break and enter and commit the indictable offence of mischief, section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

Gracie Isbister and the female and male youth are also charged with one count, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The male youth is also charged with one count, intent to commit an indictable offence, did have his face masked, section 351(2) of the Criminal Code.

The two youth cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Ross, Charles, Isbister, Halkett and the female youth were arrested between July 24 and July 26, 2022. All charged individuals will appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on July 28, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The male youth has not been located and there is a warrant for their arrest. Due to his age, police cannot identify him as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Saskatchewan RCMP's Major Crime Unit investigating suspicious death in Bell's Point

2022-07-21

On July 21, 2022 at approximately 3:15 a.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on Jack Bell Place in Bell's Point.

Officers responded and located an injured male at the residence. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 24-year-old Bell's Point resident. His family has been notified and we are not releasing his name at this time.
