Residential Fire in Rankin Inlet

On June 27, 2022 at 08:09 a.m. the Rankin Inlet RCMP were called to a residential fire. The occupants of the house were able to escape without injury and Rankin Inlet Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire. However, the damage to the residence is estimated to be nearing $100,000. An investigation ensued and resulted in a 15-year-old being arrested. The youth is facing charges for:

- Arson – Disregard for Human Life s. 433 of the Criminal Code;
- Arson to Property s. 434 of the Criminal Code; and
- Mischief Over $5000 s. 430(3) of the Criminal Code.

The youth appeared in Justice of the Peace court and has been remanded in custody until the next court appearance on July 25, 2022 in Rankin Inlet.
