RCMP operation in Halfway Point concludes; one man arrested and charged for multiple offences

Thirty-eight-year-old James Boone of Halfway Point was arrested last night following a police operation in Halfway Point. He is charged with a number of criminal offences.

Corner Brook RCMP initiated the investigation in response to a report of an assault and various firearm offences involving Boone. RCMP officers from Corner Brook and Deer Lake Detachments, the Emergency Response Team, West District General Investigation Section and Police Dog Services, attended the community. A tactical plan to safely apprehend Boone was implemented. Officers executed a search warrant at Boone's residence. A firearm was recovered from inside the home.

Boone was apprehended by RCMP a short time later at a hotel in Corner Brook without incident and remains in custody. He attends court today and is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
