Twenty-three-year-old Joshua Penney, who was recently released from incarceration with a lifetime firearms prohibition, was taken into custody by Clarenville RCMP on February 24, 2022, after officers searched his home and located a firearm and drugs.
Yesterday, RCMP officers from Clarenville detachment and the East District General Investigation Section (GIS) entered the Bunyan's Cove home with a warrant to search. Officers located a shot gun, quantities of prescription medications and pills, as well as drug paraphernalia and items consistent with drug trafficking.
Penney was arrested and attends court today. He is charged with the following offences:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
The investigation is continuing and drug trafficking charges are pending.
