Prince District JFO seizes more than 17-thousand contraband cigarettes

More than 17-thousand illegal cigarettes have been seized in Summerside, following an investigation by the Prince District Joint Forces Operation (JFO).

On May 19, 2022, the Prince District JFO executed a search warrant at a home on Read Drive as part of an ongoing investigation into violations of the Excise Act and Tobacco Tax Act. During the search of the home, police seized 17,366 contraband cigarettes, as well as a quantity of Canadian currency.

A 73-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was later released pending a court appearance in Summerside Provincial Court at a later date.

The Prince District JFO Unit is comprised of members of the Prince District RCMP, Summerside Police Services, and Kensington Police Services.
