Dawson City RCMP is looking for witnesses and information related to a hit and run that left one person with serious injuries.
On August 25, 2022, at approximately 9:15 am, Dawson City RCMP received a call about a hit and run on 4th Avenue, near the property management office. Witnesses reported that a vehicle hit a pedestrian then fled the area at high speeds. Police in the area observed a vehicle that matched witness descriptions and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle again fled the area. Based on dangerous driving observed by police, including speeds in town that were allegedly estimated to be in excess of 120km/h, a pursuit was called off due to possible risk to the public.
Police continued patrols through the day in an attempt to locate the vehicle and deter other dangerous driving. During subsequent checks of an industrial area south of town, police located the vehicle, a black 2005 Mercedes Benz car, abandoned. It was seized pending further investigation.
The pedestrian involved was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Further information will not be provided in order to protect their privacy.
Anyone who witnessed this hit and run, observed the vehicle as it fled the area, or with dashcam footage or information that will further the investigation is encouraged to contact Dawson City RCMP at 867-993-5555.
