The Codiac Regional RCMP is continuing to investigate following a large police response to a 911 call in Moncton, N.B.
On July 21, 2022, at approximately 9:21 a.m., a 911 dispatcher received a call that appeared to indicate a person in distress. Shortly after the call was received, the line went silent, and dispatchers were unable to reconnect with the caller. Due to the nature of the call, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP and RCMP specialized policing services attended a residence on Argyle Street, near Mckenzie Avenue, in Moncton. People in nearby homes were also advised to shelter in place.
At approximately 1:49 p.m., RCMP members were able to enter the home and secure the residence. No one on scene was injured, and no arrests were made. The police presence was scaled back shortly after, and residents were advised to return to their normal activities.
"I'm not able to share more information at this time to protect the ongoing investigation, but I want to assure people that public safety is always our top priority," says S/Sgt. Dave MacDonnell of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We are always assessing to ensure our response to any incident is appropriate, and that the public has the information they need to know to stay safe. We want to thank the people of Moncton for their cooperation and support during this incident."
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the 911 call.
