Marystown man charged with abduction of youth

A twenty-five-year-old man of Marystown is facing multiple charges after Burin Peninsula RCMP responded to a report on September 1, 2022 of a youth being taken the previous night to St. John's from Marystown, by a person known to the family, without the consent of the youth's parents.

With the assistance of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the man and the youth were located in St. John's. The youth was unharmed and was returned to his family.

The accused has appeared in court and is charged with abduction of a person under the age of 14, luring a child and uttering threats. He was released under a number of court-imposed conditions and will appear in court again in October.

Police advice there is no general risk to the public.
