Man charged with aggravated assault, attempted arson, other offences

A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with multiple incidents in the Sussex area, including aggravated assault and attempted arson.

On July 11, 2022, members of the Sussex RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a theft of fuel from an area gas station. Then, on July 13, police responded to a report of an suspicious fire at a property on Route 111 in Jeffries Corner. No one was injured in the fire, but the exterior of the residence was damaged. Then, on July 18, members of the Sussex RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a break and enter at a home on Elmview Avenue, in Sussex. A man reported to have been assaulted inside his home, and attended hospital with serious injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, police were able to identify a person of interest in connection with all three incidents. On August 2, 2022, at approximately 9 a.m., members of the Sussex RCMP Detachment located a 28-year-old man at the intersection of Park Street and O'Connell Avenue, in Sussex. The man was arrested at the scene without incident. A 24-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene, and later released pending a future court appearance.

Thomas Quinn Doiron, from Sussex, appeared in Saint John Provincial Court on August 2 and August 4. He is currently charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Break and enter
  • Uttering threats
  • Attempted arson
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Driving while prohibited

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 22.

Police are investigating whether other recent incidents in the Sussex area may be connected to the current investigations.
