Gander RCMP responds to robbery at Walmart, man arrested

A 24-year-old Gander man is currently in custody after a robbery that occurred this morning at Walmart in Gander.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Gander RCMP received the report and attended the scene. A man, who was allegedly departing the store with a cart load of stolen merchandise, pulled a knife out on employees who were trying to intercept him as he was leaving the store. Employees backed away and the man departed on foot. He was quickly located by police in a nearby wooded trail and was arrested.

He is expected to appear in court later today where the following charges will be laid:

  • Robbery with an offensive weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of stolen property
