On June 4, 2022, just after 8 p.m., Edson RCMP were patrolling in the area of Township Road 533A and noticed a man driving an ATV at a high rate of speed. The ATV matched the description of a stolen ATV reported earlier in the day. RCMP activated their emergency equipment; however, the driver failed to stop. The ATV was eventually located after the driver crashed it into a tree and fled. Through extensive searching, and with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services, RCMP were able to locate and arrest the driver of the stolen ATV.
A 23-year-old individual, of Niton Junction, Alta., is facing new charges as a result of the June 4, 2022, incident which include the following:
- Flight from police
- Obstruction of a peace officer
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Possession of prohibited weapon
- Failure to comply with conditions of release order x2
