On the morning of June 10, 2022, a truck was stolen from 48 St. and 5 Ave. in Edson and was later abandoned near Township Road 165 in Yellowhead County, Alta. Edson RCMP attended the location and located the stolen vehicle and canvassed the area. A resident indicated he caught a suspicious male breaking into his residence and had scared him away.
Shortly after, a complaint was received of a suspicious truck near 56 St. and 16 Ave. in Edson. Edson RCMP confirmed the truck had just been stolen from the Township Road 165 area.
Officers redeployed to the new location in Edson and contained the area. RCMP Police Dog Services were called out to assist. At around 12:30 p.m., an Edson resident in the Westhaven area reported a suspicious male matching the description of the male involved in the prior incidents. Officers attended the location and located the male. He tried to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended without incident. Investigation revealed the male broke into two residences and tried to gain access to four other vehicles between Edson and Yellowhead County.
A 27-year-old individual, of Edson, was charged with the following:
- Mischief x4
- Possession of stolen property over $5000 x2
- Break and enter x2
- Resist a Peace Officer
The 27-year-old individual was held for a bail hearing and was released by the justice of the peace to appear in Edson Provincial Court June 21, 2022.
