Digby RCMP investigating hit-and-run involving tractor trailer

August 20, 2022
Smith's Cove, Nova Scotia

News release

Digby RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run that occurred on Hwy. 101 between exits 24 and 25. A vehicle was struck by a passing transport truck, which failed to remain at the scene.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on August 19, RCMP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision in Smith's Cove. An east-bound Dodge Caravan was pulled over on the shoulder of Hwy. 101, and the driver went to exit the vehicle to switch driving positions with the passenger. At that time, an east-bound tractor trailer struck the open door of the Caravan, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury to the Caravan's driver.

The tractor trailer failed to stop, continuing east-bound on Hwy. 101.

There's currently no description of the transport truck, and it's possible the driver didn't realize they struck the Caravan. However, there may be damage to the passenger side of the transport and/or trailer, with possible red paint transfer on the truck or trailer.

Highway 101, between exits 24 and 25, was closed for just under two hours. The Smith's Cove Volunteer Fire Department assisted RCMP members at the scene with first aid and traffic control.

The investigation is ongoing, and Digby RCMP members are looking for information from anyone who may've witnessed the hit-and-run. Please call 902-245-2579.
