One person was arrested over the weekend for mischief over $5000 after windows were damaged by rocks at Andrew A. Philipsen Law Courts in Whitehorse, YT.
Whitehorse RCMP was contacted on May 28, 2022, about damage to multiple windows at the Law Centre on Second Avenue. Though there was significant damage, there was no sign of entry into the building, which includes offices and courtrooms within the Law Centre and the Law Courts Building.
On May 29, 2022, after reviewing security footage from the building, police arrested Warren Warawa, age 57 of Whitehorse. He was held for court and had a first court appearance on May 30, 2022. He is charged with the following offences:
- mischief over $5000, section 430(3) Criminal Code
- fail to comply with probation order, section 733.1(1) Criminal Code
Mr. Warawa was released pending further court appearances scheduled for June 15, 2022.
