On Friday, Aug. 12, Indigenous leaders, representatives from the province, RCMP employees, as well as family and friends gathered to congratulate 28 Indigenous youth as they paraded outside the Alberta RCMP Headquarters for the Soaring Eagles Indigenous Youth Camp 2022 graduation.

Last held in 2019, the camp is designed to simulate the same physical and intellectual training regular members receive in Depot. The week-long camp saw the 16 to 19-year-old participants engage in daily fitness and foot drill, as well as interactive presentations with officers of the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, Explosive Disposal Unit, and Forensic Identification Services.

The Soaring Eagles Indigenous Youth Camp is hosted by the Alberta RCMP Recruiting Unit in partnership with the Justice and Solicitor General – First Nations Policing Services. The camp introduces Indigenous youth to a career in law enforcement, emergency response and community involvement.

"Representing many nations, from many areas in the province, Soaring Eagle cadets have had the opportunity to learn many new skills and make great bonds this past week. Knowing that exceptional young adults like these are interested in a career in policing reassures me that the future of policing is bright."

- Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP
