A 55-year-old man from Penobsquis, N.B., has died following a two-vehicle collision in Penobsquis, N.B.
On August 19, 2022, at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP, Penobsquis Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a head-on collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a transport truck on Highway 1, in Penobsquis.
The crash is believed to have occurred when the driver of the SUV, travelling westbound in the eastbound lane, collided with the transport truck travelling eastbound. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver of the transport truck was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office attended the scene and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. The highway was closed for approximately four hours, but has since been re-opened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the man's exact cause of death.
