Update – Thompson RCMP charge male in relation to assault on police officer

On October 31, 2021, at approximately 6:00 pm, Thompson RCMP arrested Raymond Michelle, 30, in relation to the officer-involved shooting incident and threats made towards community members on October 25, 2021.

On October 25, 2021, a Thompson RCMP officer was serving legal documents to an unrelated resident of Princeton Drive when the officer was informed by a member of the public that there was an individual with a knife in the area. The officer immediately responded, and the encounter resulted in the officer discharging their firearm. A knife was seized at the scene. Nobody else was physically injured.

Michelle was taken to hospital and has since been released. He was later arrested at a business in Thompson and remains in custody.

He is charged with Assault on a Police Officer with a Weapon, Assault with a Weapon (on civilians) x2 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has taken carriage of the investigation.

Thompson RCMP also continues to investigate.


On October 25, 2021, at approximately 2:45 pm, an officer from the Thompson Detachment was on Princeton Drive to serve legal documents when they encountered a 30-year-old male who was armed with a knife.

The encounter resulted in the officer discharging their firearm.

The 30-year-old male was taken to hospital with a serious injury.

The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has been notified and are taking carriage of the investigation.

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.
