RCMP responds to serious collision

Inverness County District RCMP is investigating after a motor vehicle collision on Highway 19 in Port Hood.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. yesterday evening, police were notified of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 19 in Port Hood. Police, fire and EHS attended the scene and found that a car travelling south on Highway 19 had been turning left into a parking lot, when it was struck by a pick-up truck travelling north on Highway 19. The driver of the car, a 23-year-old man, and the occupants of the pick-up truck, a 36-year-old man and a 5-year-old child, were uninjured. The passenger of the car, a 12-year-old child, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by LifeFlight.

A collision reconstructionist attended, and the investigation is ongoing.

Highway 19 was closed for several hours.
