RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay charges after a murder and arson investigation

On June 23, 2021, just after 7:30 a.m., the Wetaskiwin RCMP were called to a structure fire on a rural property in the Usona district of the County of Wetaskiwin.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate. On June 24, 2021, human remains were located at the property, and an autopsy was completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on June 25, 2021. The results of the autopsy are pending.

A 31-year-old male and a 36-year-old male of Maskwacis, Alta., and a 28-year-old male of Wetaskiwin, Alta. have been charged with the murder of Clifford Stauffer and Arson with disregard for human life. All three males have been remanded in custody until their court appearance on June 29, 2021.
