RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate suspicious death in Athabasca

An arrest has been made and charges laid in relation to the March 22, 2021 homicide of Kelsey Thunder (23) of Athabasca, Alta.

On March 22, 2021 at 3:55 a.m., Athabasca RCMP and EMS were called to a residence on the east end of Athabasca, Alta. for an unresponsive female. When the RCMP arrived on scene, it was determined that the 23-year-old female was confirmed to be deceased.

The death was deemed suspicious, and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take carriage of the investigation.

On March 22, 2021, RCMP arrested a 26-year-old male of Athabasca Alta. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He was remanded into custody following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 25, 2021 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further updates will be provided.
