Polar bear attack

Sanirajak, NU – August 10, 2021

On August 10, 2021 at 2:25pm, the Sanirajak RCMP were dispatched to a report of a polar bear attack south of the dewline near some cabins. While en route, the police were told by a motorist that three people were being transported to the health centre. The polar bear was found dead by the cabins and the wildlife officer who attended with the police took possession and transported it to their office.

The people that were attacked by the polar bear were medivacked, one man to Ottawa and the two women to Iqaluit. Although badly injured, they are expected to recover from their injuries.
