On December 17, 2021, at 6:45 am, the Sanikiluaq RCMP Detachment received a call of a plane crash at the Sanikiluaq airport. The Keewatin Air aircraft could be seen beyond the end of the runway. The aircraft had four occupants reported to have minor injuries who were transported to the health centre. Weather conditions at the time of the incident were reported to be high winds, blowing snow with poor visibility.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing in conjunction with Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
