News release

Naujaat RCMP worked with the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) to give children in Naujaat the opportunity to play hockey.

In 1999, the (NHLPA) launched the Goals & Dreams fund as a way for the players to give something back to the game they love. The players' program has donated full sets of hockey equipment that has benefited more than 80,000 economically challenged children in 34 countries and assisted with upgrades and the building of hundreds of arenas world-wide. To date, Goals & Dreams has donated more than $24-million to grassroots hockey programs around the world making it the largest program of its kind.

Naujaat RCMP and Community Mental Health partnered with the Naujaat Minor Hockey Association and applied to the NHLPA's Goals & Dreams fund. The goal was to outfit 25 youth from Naujaat who wouldn't have the opportunity to play hockey and learn invaluable team skills.

Naujaat was chosen as a recipient of 25 sets of gear by the NHLPA and the gear arrived just in time for hockey season. The hockey registration fees for the all the recipients was also taken care of, as the fees were paid by anonymous donor.
