Man seriously injured after hit and run involving truck

At 2:05 a.m. on April 25, Halifax District RCMP received a report that a man had been hit by a truck on Gatehouse Run in Hammonds Plains. RCMP, Fire and EHS attended and located the victim, a 27-year-old man from East Dover. He was taken to hospital by EHS with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck involved had left the scene. The truck was located a short time later at a home in Hammonds Plains and was seized. The driver, an 18-year-old man from Hammonds Plains, was arrested without incident and was taken to Tantallon RCMP Detachment to provide samples of his breath after failing a roadside screening test. He was later released and is schedule to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on June 14 at 9:30 a.m. to face charges of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing in Bodily Harm. The driver was also issued a 15-day suspension of his driver's license for low-level alcohol impairment.

The investigation is ongoing.
