Update: Man charged with child luring; RCMP seeking information regarding possible other victims

Update: On June 1, 2023, Daniel Leigh Hewitt appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and plead guilty to two counts of child luring, and two counts of sexual assault. He was released from custody, and is scheduled to return to court on September 12.

A 35-year-old man from Hoyt, N.B. has been charged with child luring and sexual offences in connection with two reports of sexual assaults against minors in Oromocto, N.B.

Daniel Leigh Hewitt appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court via tele-remand on April 22, 2021, and was charged with two counts of child luring, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of sexual touching. He was remanded in custody pending a court appearance on April 26, 2021.

The charges stem from reports of two incidents on January 21, 2021 involving teenaged girls who were lured to meet a man they had communicated with on the social media app, Snapchat.

Police have information that Daniel Leigh Hewitt used the display name "DL" and the username "Standy506" on Snapchat. Police believe he may have also used additional social media platforms to communicate with other individuals.

"Anyone who may have interacted with Daniel Leigh Hewitt on Snapchat, or on other social media platforms, is asked to contact police," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette with the New Brunswick RCMP. "We need to know if there are other possible victims so we can ensure a thorough investigation is conducted."

Anyone who interacted with Daniel Leigh Hewitt on social media, or who has information that may help the investigation, is asked to contact the Oromocto RCMP at 506-357-3400.
