News release

Bay St. George RCMP arrested a Stephenville man who was operating a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on September 24, 2021, following an investigation of a residential break and enter in Stephenville.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., police received the report of a break, enter and theft and learned that an ATV was stolen. Officers patrolled the area and located the described ATV and conducted a traffic stop. The 26-year-old driver, who was in possession of suspected cocaine and showed signs of impairment, was arrested. He provided breath samples that were above the provincial limit for alcohol and he tested positive for cannabis. He was transported to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for further testing.

He was released from custody to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, mischief under $5000, and possession of cocaine. Officers await the results of the testing to determine if charges of drug impaired driving are appropriate.
