Man arrested in connection to rash of thefts from community mailboxes

On March 11, 2021, a 26-year-old man from Cocagne, N.B. was arrested following an ongoing investigation into a rash of thefts from Canada Post community mailboxes. Police seized stolen mail and other related items after executing a search warrant at a residence and a vehicle in Cocagne.

The 26-year-old man was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on July 16 at 9:30 a.m.

The Southeast District Crime Reduction Unit started an investigation on February 12 after receiving a report of damage to a community mailbox and stolen mail. Throughout the investigation, more than 50 complaints were received from 16 communities. Some of the communities affected in the Kent, Westmorland and Albert Counties include: Saint-Antoine, Notre-Dame, Grande-Digue, Upper Coverdale and Sainte-Marie-de-Kent.

The investigation is ongoing.
