Rankin Inlet, NU – September 25, 2021
In the early morning hours of September 18, 2021 the Rankin Inlet RCMP were called to a fatal hit and run of a 19-year old male. When the police arrived on scene, the ambulance was transporting one male to the health centre who later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the area. The truck was located abandoned outside of town. Through the investigation, the driver was identified as Ben Angoshadluk.
On September 24, 2021, Angoshadluk was arrested and has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:
- S. 320.14(3) - impaired operation causing death;
- S. 320.13(3) - dangerous operation causing death; and
- S. 320.16(3) - fail to remain at the scene of an accident.
Angoshadluk will appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice on November 1, 2021 in Rankin Inlet.
