Channel Port Aux Basques RCMP responds to report of erratic driver; man arrested for impaired driving

A 34-year-old Channel Port Aux Basques man was arrested by police for impaired driving following reports of an erratic driver on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) on August 17, 2021.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Channel Port Aux Basques RCMP received a complaint of an erratic driver on the TCH. Police located the described vehicle near Edna's Road in Port Aux Basques and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was arrested and transported to the detachment for breath testing and provided breath samples that were three times the legal limit.

The man's licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded. He was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date.
