A car that was travelling 189 km/h on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH), operated by a 19-year-old man, was stopped by Gander RCMP on September 25, 2021. The driver faces a criminal charge of dangerous driving.
Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, RCMP officers were parked along the side of the TCH near Square Pond and observed a car travelling westbound at an excessive speed. A radar reading confirmed the vehicle was travelling 189 km/h. The information was relayed to an RCMP officer in Gander and the vehicle was located and stopped as it exited the TCH in Gander.
The man was ticketed for the excessive speed, his driver's licence was suspended and the car was seized and impounded. He is set to appear in court on December 14, 2021, to answer to a charge of dangerous driving.
