Canoe carrying two men capsizes in Deer Lake, one man drowns

An 18-year-old man is deceased following a drowning that occurred on April 1, 2021.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP received a report of the drowning in Deer Lake across from Pasadena Beach. A canoe, carrying two men, had capsized in the water. A kayaker in the area heard the calls for help and paddled towards the men. One man made it safely to shore and the other did not. His body was recovered by Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue and was transported to Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook. Both men were wearing life jackets.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged and the investigation is continuing.
