21-year-old man charged with second-degree murder

A 21-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following an investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Unit into a homicide in Moncton, N.B.

On March 12, 2021, at around 3:50 a.m., Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle collision with a pedestrian, in the parking lot of a business located at 411 Elmwood Drive. Once on scene, police found Javin Melanson, a 19-year-old man from Moncton, deceased. Investigators have determined that his death was the result of a homicide.

The same day, RCMP arrested a 21-year old man in Cap-Pelé, N.B., as part of the on-going investigation. The vehicle involved in the homicide, was also recovered by police.

Anthony Miller of Cap-Pelé appeared in Moncton Provincial Court, by way of tele-remand on March 13, 2021, and was charged with second-degree murder.

He is scheduled to return to court in Moncton on March 16 at 1:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
