Shelburne man charged with impaired driving, assaulting a peace officer following collision

On July 12, Shelburne RCMP responded to a 911 call for an unknown emergency in the area of Jordan Ferry in Shelburne County. When a police officer arrived at the scene, he found an injured, intoxicated man who had been involved in a single vehicle collision on an all terrain vehicle (ATV).

During the arrest, the accused assaulted the police officer on two separate occasions. The accused was taken for medical treatment, then for a breath test at the detachment. He threatened to further assault the police officer. He was lodged in cells for the night. David Walter Hill, 53, from Shelburne is being charged with a number of offences:

  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
  • Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg%
  • Uttering Threats
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer (2 counts)
  • Obstruction (Resisting Arrest)

He is also charged with several offences under the Off Highway Vehicle Act and Liquor Control Act. The ATV was seized. The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on September 19. The RCMP officer was not injured as a result of the assaults.
