This past weekend, between August 29 and 30, 2020, Saskatchewan RCMP responded to four separate fatal motor vehicle collisions in the Moose Jaw, Pelican Narrows, North Battleford and Fort Qu'Appelle detachment areas.
Moose Jaw
On August 29, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Moose Jaw RCMP received the report of a fatal motor vehicle collision involving an SUV and a semi-truck, approximately 10 km east of Moose Jaw on Highway 1, west of Belle Plaine.
It was reported to police that the SUV was travelling north on a grid approaching the Highway #1. The SUV did not slow down for the stop sign and proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed. The SUV struck the semi's trailer as the semi was travelling east.
When officers arrived, the SUV was fully engulfed in flames. The 77-year-old male driver, and lone occupant of the SUV, was declared deceased on scene.
The 28-year-old male driver, and lone occupant of the semi-truck, did not sustain any injury from the collision.
RCMP will not be releasing the identities of those involved.
An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service along with Pense Fire and Moose Jaw EMS all attended the scene.
Pelican Narrows
On August 29, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to the report of a single vehicle collision located on approximately KM 16 on Highway 135 towards Pelican Narrows. The SUV was carrying seven occupants.
A 28-year-old female front passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene by EMS. Five other occupants, ages 17, 34, 31, 29, and 30, all sustained varying levels of injuries and were taken to hospital in Pelican Narrows or Flin Flon for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old female, left the scene, but was later located at a clinic in Pelican Narrows. The female was arrested for impaired operation causing death.
An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service also attended the scene.
North Battleford
On August 29, at approximately 7:30 p.m., North Battleford RCMP received the report of a serious single motor vehicle collision on Highway 4 north of Cochin.
Upon arrival, officers determined the driver of the vehicle fled the scene wearing a red t-shirt, black pants and red shoes. It is unknown where the driver is at this time and efforts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful so far. North Battleford RCMP is looking to the public for assistance in locating the driver and/or providing additional information of this incident to further the investigation.
The 21-year-old female passenger was transported to hospital in Battlefords, but passed away from injuries.
A Saskatchewan RCMP Reconstructionist as well as WPD ambulance from North Battledford attended the scene.
Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP respond to fatal single vehicle rollover
On August 30, at approximately 2 p.m., Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle roll over on a gravel road south of Lebret known as Wide Awake Road. Indian Head RCMP, Fort Qu'Appelle Fire Department, Fort Qu'Appelle EMS, Fort Qu'Appelle Conservation Officers and the File Hills Police all attended to the collision.
Three occupants were in the vehicle. A 20-year-old female was declared deceased on scene by EMS and an 18-year-old female sustained critical injuries. The 18-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Regina. A male youth under the age of 16 years old was also injured and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. His injuries are not considered to be critical and he is believed to be the driver.
A forensic collision reconstructionist attended the scene to assist Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP with the investigation.
RCMP will not be releasing the identities of those involved and the investigation is continuing.
