La Ronge/Stanley Mission RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit South: Charges laid in homicide investigation

On February 29, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m., La Ronge/Stanley Mission RCMP and La Ronge EMS were called to an assault at a residence in Grandmother's Bay, Saskatchewan.

Upon arrival, an adult male, identified as 32-year-old Norris Kevin Charles of Grandmother's Bay, was located deceased within the home.

Initial investigation has led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male, also of Grandmother's Bay, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Section 235(1) of the Canadian Criminal Code. He remains in custody and will make his first appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday, March 2 at 9 a.m.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit South has taken carriage of the investigation with assistance from La Ronge/Stanley Mission RCMP, Yorkton and Prince Albert General Investigation Sections, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services and Prince Albert Police Dog Services.

An autopsy for Mr. Charles is scheduled to take place in Saskatoon on Monday, March 2.

The investigation is ongoing.
