News release

Every year, thousands of Canadians are either injured or killed in traffic crashes involving alcohol, drugs or a combination of both.

Fatigue and distracted driving are also causes of accidents in Canada.

Driving while impaired is dangerous for oneself and others.

NT RCMP continues to provide regular policing duties 24/7/365 under the Criminal Code, Federal and Territorial legislation, such as the NWT Motor Vehicles Act.

If you plan on driving, make sure you are fit to take the wheel, and that you are not impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue. Take extra care to follow laws and make choices that keep all of us safe.

"It's all about education and safety on our roads" states Cpl. Sam Munden, NCO i/c of NT RCMP Traffic Services. "We want the public to understand the dangers of driving impaired, and ultimately, we want to stop impaired driving".

Road Safety is a priority for the NT RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well. If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads or if you suspect impaired driving, please contact your local RCMP detachment.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 nwtnutips.com, (click on "submit a web tip") or text: "nwtnutips" plus your message to 274637.
