Montreal Lake RCMP: Search for missing boater on Bittern Lake, SK

On August 15, 2020, at approximately 3 p.m., Lakeland Fire and Rescue and Montreal Lake RCMP responded to reports of a man who went overboard a boat on Bittern Lake, SK, and did not resurface.

It was reported that a boat carrying eight people was out on the lake when an adult female passenger was swept overboard as a wave crashed over the boat. A 23-year-old male onboard jumped into the water after her. The female resurfaced, but the male did not. The boat began taking on water and the remaining passengers swam and made it to shore safely.

Immediate patrols to locate the male were done by boat and on land. The search has been ongoing since it was reported to police. Local RCMP, Prince Albert Grand Council, community members, and family and friends of the missing man have continued doing boat and ground searches. The Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team arrived yesterday to aid in a search of the water and STARS Air Ambulance and CASARA flew over the area. Grandmother's Bay Recovery Team will be attending today to search the water with their remote-operated vehicle.

Unfortunately, the male has not yet been located.
