Correction : Man charged with first-degree murder in death of Elias Bastarache

A 33-year-old man from Saint-Édouard-de-Kent, N.B., has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the homicide of 67-year-old Elias Bastarache.

Members of the Richibucto RCMP were called to a home on Route 515 in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent at about 4 p.m. on February 21, 2020, for a report of a sudden death. Upon arrival, police discovered the body of a man. It was determined that the man died as the result of a homicide.

As a result of the ongoing investigation by the RCMP's Major Crime Unit, a search warrant was conducted at a home in Saint-Édouard-de-Kent on February 26.

On February 27, a 33-year-old man was arrested in the nearby community of Dixon Point.

On February 28, Marcel Savoie appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with first-degree murder. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 27.
