Lynn Lake RCMP respond to drowning on Hughes Lake

On August 5, 2020, at 8:15 pm, Lynn Lake RCMP received a report of a possible drowning on Hughes Lake, located on the Black Sturgeon First Nation.

Officers were advised that a boat, with three occupants, had capsized, and that a 59-year-old male, was unconscious and had to be pulled from the water. The two other occupants, two 24-year-old males, assisted in pulling the 59-year-old out of the water and to shore.

Once on shore, medical assistance was provided until EMS arrived who later pronounced the male deceased.

Life jackets were not in use at the time and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Lynn Lake RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
